Garage museum x Soundart festival

Due to the limitations of Corona, the festival could not be held offline, so we spent some amazing evenings at the museum recording performances by artists to bring this to the audience.

The feat

2-channel video installation by Mikhail Tolmachev , sound 43min., 2023/2024 The video installation delves into the intricate interplay between artistic expression and political realities, shedding light on the manipulation and utilization of art for State propaganda. The project takes its genesis from a diorama crafted in Moscow in 2020 by two realist painters, commissioned by the state-funded battle art studio. This diorama vividly portrays a battle during the Chechen war in the year 2000. Employing an essayistic approach and a combination of documentary and staged elements, "The Feat" navigates a dynamic chain of processes. It unfolds the narrative from the factual accounts of the event, as covered by journalists and investigators, to the artistic reinterpretation of the war artists and the subsequent perception of their work by the audience.
